I have SO much to update on my Blog and News pages, but I just don’t have the time quite yet. I will say, however, that I’m looking forward to tonight’s recital by tenor Éric Thériault, whose second Masters recital I am accompanying at the Salle Neil Michaud at Université de Moncton. Admission is $17 for entrance to this event, the final requirement for graduating from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Great music from Robert Schumann, Ralph Vaughn Williams and Charles Griffes.
Barrack Obama, the US Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has been touring Europe. Exactly for what purpose is unclear to me, since he has stated that he is speaking as a US senator and not a presidential candidate per se. However, I am guessing that if he does happen to win the presidential election in November, he will have planted many seeds of international support for an (even if only slightly) evolved America that needs to be better loved and appreciated by its global allies and neighbours. Earlier, Obama spoke to a supportive crowd of apparently 200,000 in Berlin, and seems to have much of France eagerly awaiting his visit also. I would hope that even if Obama does not become the next US president, his diplomatic efforts don’t go to waste and still somehow benefit his country as led by his rival, the Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Only time (and our Canadian necks) will tell.

Here’s an interesting tidbit I found in Google, while searching for references to accompanists who charge for practice time.
Required and Essential Skills for the Collaborative Pianist
The parent site is run by Dr. Christopher Foley, a former classmate of mine at the University of British Columbia. Lots of interesting stuff there, […]

Murphy’s Lesser Known Laws
1. Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
2. Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
3. Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don’t.

A couple of things to cover today.

An extended-family member recently suffered a computer setback. While transferring data from his laptop to his external hard drive, somehow the latter fell to the ground during a write operation. This effectively rendered the drive inoperative and put in jeopardy a large collection of precious family […]

So have you read that message thread at AllNurses.com where certain contributors working in the medical profession repeatedly deny any solid links between vaccines and autism? The final verdict is not in, and probably won’t be for a very long time, but I do not place complete faith in any one doctors’ camp due […]

I periodically receive a newsletter from AllNurses.com, which (among other things) highlights recent and/or active threads in their discussion forums. One thread title caught my eye: “Autism Myth Lives On.” It was fascinating to read how opinions vary and how emotional connections to this topic can be. On the one hand, parents have a […]

Lately, the American minister Rev. Jeremiah Wright has been in the international news, partly because he was a former pastor at the church attended by current Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama. The relationship between these two men has self-destructed, yet by this prior connection, Senator Obama still faces eroding support in his bid for […]

Toto, again typing in ScribeFire, says:
I’m recovering from the last week spent adjudicating Senior Piano classes in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, during the 2008 Annapolis Valley Music Festival. It was very rewarding to find so much talented piano playing there, and also to realize that some fine teaching has been going on for decades or longer. […]

And now I’m using ScribeFire to write a new blog article. In contrast to the Microsoft Live Writer, which I used the other day and found it quite suitable, ScribeFire is actually an add-on to the Mozilla Firefox Web browser, which I’ve been using instead of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer for several years now. Not […]
